CEO | Founder

Steve Ellmore is an American filmmaker, photojournalist, and veterans’ activist. His experience behind the lens dates back to the 80s with his first 35mm camera. From there he migrated to TV and audio production before joining the U.S. Air Force in 1992. After retiring from the military in 2012, he picked up the camera again as a freelance photographer. In 2013 he returned to service as a civilian Public Affairs Specialist at Fort George G. Meade where he contributed photos and stories to the post newspaper, SoundOff! Additionally, he was responsible for managing the entire digital media presence for Maryland's single largest employer and the Army's 3rd largest installation. His venture into activism and filmmaking began with the American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012 and the looming sequestration. At the time the U.S. government was considering a reduction in military benefits, including retirement pay, as a means for reducing the federal budget. Ellmore responded with the development of Allegiance to the Same, a documentary he conceived to raise awareness of the issue. A year later the project was shelved, thanks to the efforts of the VSOs he worked with who convinced congress to back down. In 2016 he was hired by the Pentagon as the second permanent employee for the DoD's pilot social media program under the Office of the Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs, where for a time, he was personally responsible for the social media accounts for the Secretary of Defense, Jim Mattis and the Department of Defense. In 2017 he began work on his next project documenting the efforts of two veterans starting a marijuana grow in the Midwest. While the original idea was scrapped due to budget limitations, Ellmore became intrigued with the idea of treating PTSD with cannabis. As a suicide survivor he made it his mission to learn more. Initially a skeptic, his research into the plant convinced him of the need to share the stories of veterans ditching the pharmaceuticals that made them suicidal. With this goal in mind Ellmore would stop at nothing to finish production on the documentary Unprescribed. He would go on to be hired by the VA's National Cemetery Administration in early 2019 where he now works as a PA and digital content creator. In this capacity he continues to serve his country and give back to the veteran community by doing what he loves most, creating compelling content that tells the stories of those who served! Ellmore is a Southern California native who now resides in Maryland. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland University College and his master’s from Johns Hopkins University, both in communications. Ellmore is also a graduate of the Defense Information School Public Affairs Qualifying Course. His portfolio includes documentaries, short films, images and graphics, and social media content.
